Louisiana Democratic Party Statement On President Obama’s Speech on Economic Security for the Middle Class
BATON ROUGE — Today President Obama laid out his vision for a thriving middle class that rewards hard work and gives everyone a fair shot. After the speech, Louisiana Democratic Party Chair Karen Carter Peterson released the following statement:
“Throughout his time in office, President Obama has focused his attention on helping middle-class families. From saving the auto industry and helping students pay for college to securing tax cuts for 98 percent of Americans and reforming our health insurance industry, the President and Democrats in Congress have worked to improve the lives of hard-working Americans. Although our country is on the right track, there is more work to be done.
“Today President Obama laid out a clear vision for what can be done to spur economic growth and build an economy from the middle class out. Rebuilding a failing infrastructure to help businesses, expanding access to affordable health care, educating our children and securing a retirement for people who have worked hard their whole lives are not partisan ideas or goals, but the bedrock of our American system.
“It’s time for Republicans in Congress to stop refighting old battles and putting a victory in the polls ahead of a victory for the American people. It’s time for Republicans to work with President Obama on giving the middle class a better bargain.”
