BATON ROUGE – The Louisiana Democratic Party today announced that Congressman Joaquin Castro, who serves as U.S. Representative for Texas’ 20th Congressional District, will be the guest of honor at next week’s Jefferson-Jackson dinner. Congressman Castro will deliver the keynote speech at the event, addressing Democrats from across the state at the year’s biggest fundraising event.

Congressman Castro has represented San Antonio in the U.S. Congress since 2013. He serves on the House Armed Services and Foreign Affairs Committees and was recently appointed to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. He founded and currently Co-Chairs the bipartisan US-Japan Caucus in addition to serving as Chief Deputy Whip for House Democratic leadership. From supporting military families to investing in education, Congressman Castro is committed to helping mold an Infrastructure of Opportunity for Americans around the country.

The Louisiana Democratic Party’s annual Jefferson-Jackson Dinner, to be held this year on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016 at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans, is the biggest gathering of Democrats from across the state every year. In addition to the keynote from Congressman Castro, those attending will hear from party leaders and rising stars — with further details to be announced in the coming week.

“Having a rising star like Congressman Joaquin Castro headlining this year’s Jefferson-Jackson dinner is a tremendous honor, and a cause for celebration,” said Sen. Karen Carter Peterson, chair of the Louisiana Democratic Party. “Congressman Castro has proven himself to be a remarkable leader and an inspiring speaker, and we look forward to welcoming him to Louisiana next week.”
