DSCC Executive Committee Recommends Endorsing Martin Lemelle for Congress

BATON ROUGE, LA – Thursday, the Democratic State Central Committee’s Executive Committee announced its recommendation that the full body endorse Martin Lemelle in the 5th Congressional District. Lemelle is running to replace Rep. Ralph Abraham.

The Executive Committee made this recommendation after extensive interviews with Democratic candidates in the race. The full DSCC will vote on endorsements in the coming weeks.

“This November, Louisiana Democrats are ready to flip the 5th Congressional District blue and elect a leader who will fight for the people of our state. Martin Lemelle has put himself in a strong position to win, with a seasoned team behind him to launch his campaign to victory and the experience to lead,” Sen. Karen Carter Peterson, Chair of the Louisiana Democratic Party said.

“As a leader in higher education at Grambling State University and a small business owner, Martin is on the frontlines of the current health and economic crisis our communities are experiencing. For too long, the 5th Congressional District has been represented by those who care more about Washington-style politics than our families and workers. Martin Lemelle is ready to bring his district into a new chapter, and we’re proud to recommend his endorsement to the full body of the DSCC.”

A native of Lincoln Parish with familial roots in St. Landry Parish, Lemelle has lived and worked alongside the people of the 5th Congressional District for years and is committed to accomplishing positive change and sustainability within the district’s communities.
