FAQ: Primary Election and 2020 DNC Delegate Selection Plan Updates

 

Given the evolving public health situation, Team LDP is here to answer any questions you may have about the Louisiana Presidential Preference Primary and our Delegate Selection Plan. Please check this page for additional updates as time goes on.

  • When will Louisiana’s Democratic Primary election take place?
    The primary date has been postponed to Saturday, June 20th by the Secretary of State.
  • Can I still register to vote?
    Yes. The voter registration deadlines are also postponed. The in-person and by mail deadline is May 20, and the online deadline is May 30. To update or check your voter registration online, go to IWillVote.com.
  • How does this impact LDP’s Delegate Selection process?
    We are working with the DNC to rework our Delegate Selection Plan. Our current processes for qualifying as a Delegate and requesting District Level Delegate ballots remain open.
  • Has the deadline to qualify as Delegate and request vote by mail ballots changed? 
    As of right now, the deadline to qualify as a delegate is still April 6. The current deadline to request a ballot for the District Level Delegate vote by mail election is April 8. These deadlines are still in place. If we have any changes or updates, we will hold multiple Facebook Lives to explain the details, send updates via email, and update our website.   • How does this affect the Louisiana Democratic Party staff and office?
    The Louisiana Democratic Party is prioritizing health and wellbeing while continuing to work towards our shared goals. Our staff is temporarily working from home beginning March 17.   • Does this affect the April 25 Democratic State Central Committee meeting?
    The Democratic State Central Committee meeting will be rescheduled to a date in August. DSCC members should expect more information via email soon.
