In August, Jindal Said GOP “Should Use Whatever Opportunity and Tactic We Can”; Now Says He’s “Frustrated” With Shutdown
BATON ROUGE — Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal talked tough on the prospect of a government shutdown this summer, telling the New York Times, “We absolutely should use whatever opportunity and tactic we can,” but today he bemoans dysfunction in Washington and says he is “frustrated with what’s going on in D.C.”
“Bobby Jindal can’t have it both ways on the government shutdown,” said Louisiana Democratic Party Executive Director Stephen Handwerk. “He can’t talk tough and declare the shutdown ‘a false threat,’ then turn around and say he’s ‘frustrated’ by what’s happening in D.C. Republicans like Jindal and their refusal to compromise are why we’re in this mess, and their weakness in refusing to take on their Tea Party allies is why we can’t move forward. Where’s the leadership from Republican governors in pushing Speaker John Boehner to allow a vote on a clean funding bill to reopen the government? If Jindal’s so ‘frustrated,’ why doesn’t he call Steve Scalise, John Fleming and Bill Cassidy and tell them to stop blocking a vote?”
A recent CBS News poll found that 72 percent of Americans disapprove of shutting down the federal government over differences on the Affordable Care Act. The same poll found that Republicans were receiving more of the blame for the shutdown, with 44 percent of Americans holding them responsible.
