Louisiana Democratic Party Chairwoman Peterson Calls On Cassidy To Apologize & Denounce Landrieu-Mussolini Image Shared By His Campaign Manager
Nearly 24 Hours Later: Cassidy Campaign Manager Still Refusing To Take Down Offensive “MussoLandrieu” Tweet

New Orleans, Louisiana – Louisiana Democratic Party chairwoman Karen Carter Peterson released the following statement today calling on Bill Cassidy to denounce a photo shopped image of Sen. Landrieu as Benito Mussolini that was shared by his campaign manager Joel DiGrado on Twitter, and apologize for the posting of the offensive image.

“These kinds of twisted personal attacks are beyond the pale and have no place being used in Louisiana politics or anywhere at all. Not only did Bill Cassidy’s campaign manager share this despicable reminder of horrific historical events – now he won’t even take it down. Bill Cassidy should denounce the usage of this despicable imagery by his campaign, and apologize to Sen. Landrieu and the people of Louisiana.”

The despicable photo shopped image of Sen. Landrieu as Benito Mussolini was first posted by the conservative Louisiana blog The Hayride yesterday afternoon. Shortly after it was posted, Cassidy campaign manager Joel DiGrado tweeted it.

DiGrado has since repeatedly refused to comment on his decision to share the image, and refused to take it down nearly 24 hours later.

Earlier this week the National Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee “tweeted out a photo of Kentucky Democratic candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes’s face superimposed on the body of the ‘Obama Girl,’ a model who gained fame after making a series of racy videos about her ‘crush’ on then-Sen. Barack Obama in 2008.”

Unlike the NRSC, which apologized for the tweet, deleted it and reportedly disciplined the staffer who shared it, Bill Cassidy and his campaign manager are doubling down and refusing to comment or take down the image.
