The formal beginning of his term marks the dawn of a new day in Louisiana and a brighter future for its citizens. The inauguration of a Democratic governor, one who has already begun the work of making affordable healthcare accessible to all Louisianians, will make an immediate and positive impact on the lives of families across the state. As a Democrat takes office in the governor’s mansion for the first time in nearly a decade, the state is poised for a new era.
In his inaugural address, Gov. Edwards spoke to the Louisiana family values that are at the core of Democratic policy goals. He laid out a vision for immediately expanding access to affordable healthcare, fighting to equal pay for our mothers and daughters, and raising the minimum wage. In his commitment to putting Louisiana first, the new governor called on leaders from across the political spectrum to join him in rising to meet the tremendous challenges we face.
