The Louisiana Democratic Party’s Central Committee met on Saturday and endorsed candidates for federal and state offices in races that will appear on the November 6th ballot.
The party endorsed the re-election of President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.
It endorsed the re-election of Second District Congressman Cedric Richmond to a second term. The party also endorsed two Democratic candidates who are challenging incumbent Republican congressmen in two other districts. Vinny Mendoza won endorsement for his bid to defeat Republican Congressman Steve Scalise in the First Congressional District. Ron Richard won the state party’s endorsement in his bid to defeat two incumbent Republican congressmen in the Third District.
Energy policy expert Forest Wright was endorsed in his bid for the open Second District seat on the Lousiana Public Service Commission. That seat became vacant when incumbent Jimmy Fields announced that he would not to seek re-election.
Appellate Court Judge John Michael Guidry’s bid for a seat on the Louisiana Supreme Court was endorsed by the party on Saturday. He is running to fill the unexpired term of Chief Justice Kitty Kimball.
Baton Rouge attorney Gideon Carter was endorsed in his bid for a seat on the First Circuit Court of Appeal. Carter was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte.
The DSCC also endorsed Judge William C. Dupont for First Circuit Court of Appeal’s Section 1, Division B seat.
All of the candidates will be on the November 6th ballot. Runoff elections, where needed, will be held on December 8th.
