BATON ROUGE – The Louisiana Democratic Party today formally endorsed Rep. Cedric Richmond in his bid to be re-elected to represent Louisiana’s 2nd Congressional District. The Democratic State Central Committee, meeting as a body for the second time this spring, voted to endorse Richmond’s re-election campaign on the strength of his service and his commitment to Democratic family values.

Rep. Richmond has served with distinction in the US Congress since he was first elected by the people of CD2 in 2010. During his time in office, he has worked as a tireless champion for the working men and women of his district, and embodied the values that Louisiana Democrats believe in. Richmond currently serves on the House Committee on Homeland Security and the House Committee on the Judiciary. He has advocated strongly for coastal restoration along the gulf coast, and worked hard to shore up flood and hurricane protection in our vulnerable regions. He is recognized by President Obama as a leader in the efforts to reform our broken criminal justice system.

Raised in New Orleans by a public school teacher and small business owner, Richmond graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School, Morehouse College, and Tulane University Law school.

“The Louisiana Democratic Party is proud to endorse Rep. Cedric Richmond for another term representing the people of CD2 in Louisiana,” said Sen. Karen Carter Peterson, chair of the state party. “In his tenure to date as our representative in Congress, Cedric has proven himself a capable leader and a true friend to the people of his district.”
