BATON ROUGE — The Louisiana Democratic Party today released the following statement from Chair Karen Carter Peterson in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.

“As we celebrate the historic March on Washington this week and next, the people of Louisiana and our great nation are looking back on the progress we have achieved in the past 50 years and looking forward to even greater achievements for our future. The work of Dr. King is still ongoing, as we fight for greater economic parity for women, a more inclusive and tolerant society for our LGBT brothers and sisters and true equality before the law for people of all races, creeds and colors.”

This weekend and next week Louisianians and people from across the country will participate in events celebrating the 50th anniversary of the event where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech to a crowd of more than 200,000 on the National Mall.
