What Will Cassidy Tell Tea Party Groups That He Won’t Tell Louisiana?

BATON ROUGE — One week after Bill Cassidy signed onto Tea Party Sen. Ted Cruz’ petition calling for a flat tax, he is still silent on whether he would back the proposal, which would raise taxes on middle-class Louisianians while cutting taxes for millionaires and billionaires.

“This issue is too important to Louisiana families for Bill Cassidy to take a pass on answering the question,” said Kirstin Alvanitakis, communications director for the Louisiana Democratic Party. “I wonder if Cassidy is dodging the question when he meets with Tea Party leaders. What is he telling them that he won’t tell the voters of Louisiana?”

Yesterday the Tea Party Express Tweeted that they were in Louisiana to meet with U.S. Senate candidates. Herman Cain, who advocated for a “9-9-9” flat tax plan while running for president, delivered the Tea Party Express response to the State of the Union last year.

In 2010, Cassidy touted that he had an 100 percent rating from the Club for Growth on his website. The Club for Growth backs a flat tax.

“What did he tell them then that he won’t tell Louisiana now?” said Alvanitakis.
