LA DEMOCRATIC PARTY CHAIR ISSUES STATEMENT ON COMPLAINTS OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT IN AG’s OFFICE

Baton Rouge – Louisiana Democratic Party Chair Katie Bernhardt issued the following statement regarding recent reporting from The Advocate on complaints of sexual harassment at the Louisiana Department of Justice:

“Today, The Advocate revealed sexual harassment complaints levied against Attorney General Jeff Landry’s top aide, Pat Magee. These complaints are deeply disturbing. They allege that qualified women are denied advancement because Magee can’t control his sexual urges. Other complaints suggest that women must endure demeaning comments and that assignments are contingent upon age and appearance, not performance.

There is nothing humorous or “joking in nature,” as the investigation reportedly concluded. If true, these complaints reveal a toxic work environment for women at the Louisiana Department of Justice. Attorney General Landry tried to conceal these complaints from the public and only released them after losing a lawsuit. Louisiana women deserve an Attorney General who takes sexual harassment seriously, not an AG that tries to sweep such disgraceful behavior under the rug.”
