LDP Chair Karen Carter Peterson Stands with Dr. Christine Blasey Ford Following Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing
BATON ROUGE – On Thursday, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee regarding her sexual assault allegations against Judge Brett Kavanaugh. Dr. Ford’s testimony underwent hours of cross-examination by prosecutors and members of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
“After listening to Dr. Ford’s testimony today, I am convinced of the credibility of her recounting of Brett Kavanaugh’s horrific sexual assault on her,” Senator Karen Carter Peterson, chair of the Louisiana Democratic Party said. “As a sexual assault survivor, I know what Dr. Ford is feeling. I know too well the trauma and feelings of embarrassment survivors go through. Sexual assault and sexual abuse have no place in our society. Anyone who commits any such act has no place in our government or to serve the nearly 20 million sexual assault survivors in America.
“Today’s hearing made it clear that Kavanaugh is unfit to be promoted to the Supreme Court. It takes courage to tell your truth and when survivors stand up we should listen and believe them. The Senate needs to turn down this nominee. Senator John Kennedy and Senator Bill Cassidy are making a grave error if they continue to discount, disbelieve and disrespect women – #TimesUp.”
