A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT FOR NEW ORLEANS PROPERTY TAX RELIEF

Authored by Chair Kirk Green, on behalf of the Resolutions Committee

WHEREAS, This constitutional amendment was part of a package of legislative bills which would allow New Orleans to combat its affordable housing crisis through property tax incentives; and,

WHEREAS, The bills passed with bipartisan support, largely because it provides local solutions for local problems; and,

WHEREAS, Helping longtime residents stay in the city throughout rising costs preserves New Orleans’ culture and tax base, and prevents homelessness; and,

WHEREAS, By creating the ability to use property tax incentives rather than general fund revenue, the constitutional amendment would allow New Orleans to create affordable housing programs without relying on existing city income; and now,

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, The Louisiana Democratic Party supports New Orleans property tax relief through a constitutional amendment; and,

LET IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED, The Louisiana Democratic Party calls upon the people of Louisiana to pass this statewide amendment; and,
