Louisiana Democratic Party Statement on Sen. Sanders’ Exit from the Democratic Primary

Louisiana Democratic Party Executive Director Stephen Handwerk issued the following statement regarding Sen. Sanders suspending his presidential campaign:

“Louisiana Democrats applaud Sen. Sanders and his team for what they’ve accomplished throughout this primary in his fight for our shared values. Sen. Sanders has built a movement that puts bold, progressive issues on the national agenda, champions working families, and leaves a lasting impact on our country. We know that our Party and our nation is stronger because of his fierce advocacy and campaign. We owe him and his supporters a huge debt of gratitude and respect for the millions of door knocks, text messages and phone calls engaging countless people who have given up on the political system. 

“Soon, we’ll talk about uniting our party to defeat Donald Trump and take back the White House, but today we celebrate Sen. Sanders for the work he’s done to move our country and party forward.”
