Louisiana Democrats Congratulate Gov. John Bel Edwards on Re-election Victory

BATON ROUGE, LA – Saturday, the Louisiana Democratic Party congratulated Gov. John Bel Edwards on his resounding re-election victory.

“Louisiana is better off because of the decision we made tonight for our future,” Karen Carter Peterson, Chair of the Louisiana Democratic Party said. “It’s clear that Donald Trump’s attempt to nationalize this election backfired when Louisiana voters soundly rejected his brand of politics and division. Because of Gov. Edwards’ re-election, Louisiana will see four more years of increased access to health care, continued investment in education, and opportunity for all. I’m excited to continue working with Gov. Edwards for four more years of moving Louisiana forward and building a better home for all of us.”

“Today, Louisianians made a choice and showed that Washington D.C.-style politics have no place in our state. They showed that what unites us is stronger than what divides us and strong, progressive leadership will always win against a message of division,”  Stephen Handwerk, Executive Director of the Louisiana Democratic Party said. “Thank you to every single volunteer who knocked on doors, made calls, sent text messages, and cast their ballot to help us win tonight. Because of your hard work, a record number of Louisianians voted for four more years of building a better, more beautiful Louisiana with greater opportunity for all.”
