Statement re: Bombshell Advocate Report that Rep. Abraham Broke Signature Campaign Promise to Donate Salary

See below for a statement on The Advocate’s bombshell report that Representative Ralph Abraham broke his signature campaign promise; that as a man of means, he’d donate his congressional salary to St. Jude’s, which cares for sick children, and the Independence Fund, which assists seriously wounded military veterans. Not only did Rep. Abraham promise to donate his salary, he said that “It should be an honor and a privilege to serve your country and NOT a paid position.”

“We still have a lot to learn about Representative Abraham’s broken promise to St. Jude’s, the Independence Fund, and the people of the 5th congressional district. Did he ever keep his promise to donate his entire salary, or was he breaking it from day one? Why didn’t he tell his constituents when he decided he wasn’t going to donate his salary? It might be weeks before we have all the answers. But one thing is immediately clear: Representative Abraham, one of the wealthiest members of Congress, has shamefully broken a promise to give hundreds of thousands of dollars to organizations that care for sick children and disabled veterans, and then tried to hide that broken promise. That’s not the kind of person Louisiana needs as Governor,” said Eric Holl, spokesman for Victory 2019, the 2019 Louisiana Democratic Coordinated Campaign.
