Voters of 5th District Reject Jindal and Tea Party Policies
BATON ROUGE — The Louisiana Democratic Party released the following statement from Chair Karen Carter Peterson in response to the results of yesterday’s 5th Congressional District special election:
“Yesterday, a Republican who recognized the benefits of Democratic policies for his district prevailed. Democrats disagree with many of Vance McAllister’s positions, but we agree on accepting federal dollars for expanded access to health insurance for Louisiana families. McAllister garnered support and soundly defeated Bobby Jindal’s hand-picked candidate. Yesterday’s election results show that voters in Louisiana are rejecting Jindal’s political ambitions and are embracing consensus-seeking candidates, whether they are Republican or Democrat.”
