Louisiana Democratic Party Passes Most Inclusive Delegate Selection Plan Ever

Baton Rouge, LA – On Saturday, the Louisiana Democratic Party approved of the 2020 DNC delegate selection plan. The delegate selection plan is the written process for how Democratic State Parties select the delegation that will select the Democratic nominee for president and vice president at the 2020 Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee, WI.

“I’m excited to see us take another step toward full representation in the 2020 presidential election,” Stephen Handwerk, Executive Director of the Louisiana Democratic Party said. “Our goal was to develop a plan that would ensure the delegation we select to represent Louisiana at the 2020 Democratic National Convention reflects the rich diversity of the state we represent and the plan we voted on does just that. Expect to see our delegation made up of people from different backgrounds, cultures and walks of life. Louisiana is a unique place and we’re excited to showcase that in Milwaukee next year.”

“As both the chair of the Louisiana Democratic Party and a vice-chair of the DNC, it’s incredibly encouraging to see state parties around the nation adopt initiatives to ensure everyone has an equal say in the future of our party,” Karen Carter Peterson, Chair of the Louisiana Democratic Party said. “We are the party of inclusion and happy to celebrate the unique characteristics that make us American. I firmly believe the Louisiana Democratic Party’s plan is a gold standard for promoting fairness in the delegate selection process and I look forward to seeing our counterparts around the country do the same.”
