Louisiana Democratic Party Mourns the Passing of Dr. C.O. Simpkins, Louisiana Civil Rights Icon

BATON ROUGE, LA – Friday, the Louisiana Democratic Party released a statement on the passing of Dr. C.O. Simpkins, former Louisiana state representative and iconic civil rights activist.

“This week, we lost a civil rights icon and voice for justice in Louisiana and the entire nation,” Sen. Karen Carter Peterson, Chair of the Louisiana Democratic Party said. “Dr. C.O. Simpkins was a fearless champion for equality and justice in a time when he was targeted and attacked for bravely speaking out. Countless Louisianians live better lives because of his advocacy, activism, and hard work. His voice and presence will be sorely missed, and we will honor his memory every day by continuing his good fight for a more just and equitable future. Our heart and prayers go out to his friends and family as we remember Dr. Simpkins and the inspiring life he led.”
