BATON ROUGE — The Louisiana Democratic Party released the following statement on the new Public Policy Polling survey released today, which found that Bobby Jindal — who leads the Republican Governors Association — is the least popular Republican governor in the nation, with an approval rating of 28 percent.
“Today’s poll results confirm what we’ve known for a long time — Louisianians are deeply disturbed by the reckless overreach of Bobby Jindal,” said Louisiana Democratic Party Executive Director Stephen Handwerk. “Whether it’s rejecting health care for 400,000 uninsured Louisianians, slashing funding for higher education by $650 million, privatizing our charity and university hospitals with no oversight or transparency, Jindal’s regime has been one failed policy after another. After, all we’re talking about an administration that allowed $15 million worth of ice to melt in a warehouse and wasted $800,000 in taxpayer money on PR for a failed tax scheme.
“Meanwhile, unemployment in Louisiana went up each month for the first half of 2013. Add to all of this the fact that Jindal seems more interested in the needs of Iowa Republican caucus-goers than the people of Louisiana, you have a potent recipe for a 28-percent approval rating.
“The latest shenanigans in the Fifth Congressional District are merely icing on the Jindal disapproval cake. If Neil Riser thinks that being Bobby Jindal’s hand-picked candidate is going to help him with voters, he should hire a new pollster.”
Jindal’s approval even with Republicans is roughly split, with 43 percent approving and 42 percent disapproving of his job performance. However, 45 percent of independents said they disapproved of the governor. In addition, Jindal had a 70 percent disapproval rating with self-described moderates.
The PPP poll also found that President Barack Obama has a higher approval rating than Jindal and that Hillary Clinton would prevail over Jindal in a head-to-head presidential matchup in Louisiana.
